Independiente Medellín 1-0 Cerro Porteño
Independiente grabbed their first win of the competition after victory over Paraguay's Cerro Porteño in Medellín. Only one goal seperated the teams and it came from Luis Arias 11 minutes into the second half. It leaves Cerro Porteño out of the competition and leaves Independiente with an outside change of qualifying as group runners up.

Group 3
Alianza Lima 1-0 Bolívar
Alianza have their destiny in their own hands now after going back to the top of Group 3 with a narrow victory over Bolívar in Lima. Again only one goal in the game and it came with six minutes on the clock from Jose Fernández. It leaves Alianza needed a point from their final game at Estudiantes to guarantee a place in the round of 16 and extinguished Juan Aurich's faint hopes of qualifying

Group 4
Universitario 0-0 Blooming
No goals in Lima as Universitario dragged themselves level on points with Libertad at the top of Group 4 to leave a last week shoot out for the guaranteed place in the round of 16. It was though a first point of the competition for Blooming. Libertad, who travel to Blooming in the last round and must see themselves as favourites to progress whilst Universitario travel to Lanús, who themselves have an outside chance of qualifying.

Group 6
Deportivo Cuenca 0-0 Nacional
No goals in Cuenca as well as Nacional of Montevideo went to the top of Group 6 with a game to play. They will be without Óscar Morales for their final group game at home to Morelia after he was sent off in injury time. Deportivo Cuenca travel to Banfield with no hope of qualifying put could dent the Argentinian sides chances of progression.

Group 7
Deportivo Italia 2-3 Colo Colo
In a clash of the bottom two in Group 7 Colo Colo emerged triumphant to gives themselves an outside chance of qualifying. Emerson Panigutti put Deportivo ahead after 15 minutes but Colo Colo hit back to go into the break ahead. Cristian Bogado levelled the game after 26 minutes and Ezequiel Miralles put Colo Colo ahead 7 minutes before half time. A second from Miralles twelve minutes into the second half gave Colo Colo daylight but a penalty from Ricardo Branco four minutes from time gave Colo Colo a nervy finish.

Group 8
Flamengo 2-2 Universidad de Chile
In a game held over 24 hours because of problems at the Maracanã by the Rio de Janeiro floods Flamengo threw away the chance to go to the top of Group 8. After a slow start Flamengo went behind to a Walter Montillo goal two minutes before half time. Without Adriano Flamengo were sluggish and the introduction of Dejan Petkovic gave them some spark. Michael scrablmed an equaliser half way through the second half and Leo Moura, Flamengo's best player on the night, put them ahead seven minutes from time. But an injury time long range strike from Matias Rodríguez flew past Bruno to give Universidad a point.
