There would be plenty to talk about from Argentina after the midweek round of games, but sod it, it's simply not that important. As Newell's fans hit the motorway back to Rosario after their game against Huracán, a coach was shot at by a gang brandishing machine guns. Three people were hit, two of whom are now in stable conditions, but a 14-year old fan died as a result of injuries sustained in the attack. Guns have been a problem in Argentinian football in the past, but the key word there is past. This comes at a time when the very worst excesses seemed to be behind us and we have to face the facts that times have not changed and this hardcore will not go away without concerted, co-ordinated action. Nobody should go to a game of football and not return home and it's even more distressing when it's a young boy with his whole life in front of him.
This weekend's fixtures follow, and hopefully they will pass off without any reprisals for Huracán or escalations. Violence does breed violence. Let's hope sanity prevails.
