In the last first leg tie it finished all square in Curitiba between Atlético-PR and Botafogo. It was a definite game of two halves with Atlético-PR having most of the first half with Botafogo having goalkeeper Flavio to thank for keeping them in the game. The second half was a complete contrast and Atlético-PR were grateful their custodian Galatto. The teams meet again in Rio de Janeiro in a fortnight, with the rest of the preliminary round ties to be completed that week.
