In a game held over from last weekend, a depleted Santos got their season back on track after a narrow victory over América-MG at the Vila Belmiro. The only goal of the came with just eight minutes on the clock, a free kick from Arouca was headed into his own net by the unfortunate Anderson. Despite the best efforts of the visitors to get back into the game, the Santos defence held firm and the home fans celebrated a first league victory since their success against Peñarol in the Copa Libertadores final.
The midweek clash with Fluminense has been been rearranged to August so a depleted Santos will not be back in action until they face Palmeiras next weekend, América-MG though will take on the same opposition in midweek.
